Happier Than Ever, the sophomore studio album from American artist Billie Eilish, was unveiled by Darkroom and Interscope Records on July 30, 2021.
Billie worked alongside her brother and regular collaborator, Finneas O’Connell, in co-writing the album.
Finneas also took on the roles of producer and multi-instrumentalist. Eilish has credited the self-reflection she experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic as the primary inspiration for the album.
Distinguished by its slow-tempo pop style, Happier Than Ever features minimalistic, jazz-influenced electropop arrangements and contemplative tempos, a departure from the lively, trap-driven sound of her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2019).
The album predominantly consists of torch songs that delve into the drawbacks of fame, drawing significantly from Eilish’s own experiences in the limelight. Upon its release, music critics lauded the album for its stylistically subdued production and thought-provoking lyrics.
At the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, Happier Than Ever and its eponymous track garnered a total of seven nominations, including Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.
